Writing is a reasonably new love of mine. It came about after a last minute change of sixth forms meaning I’ve just finished two years studying English Language, French and Maths. Had I never built up the courage to change schools, I’d not have discovered my passion for words. I wouldn’t now be studying English Language at The University of Manchester. And I’m pretty certain I would not have this blog.
To fuel my love of words I enjoy writing reviews. Reviews of my obscure music collection, combined with restaurant reviews and opinion pieces on TV programmes have formed previous encounters of this blog and I hope to continue to write similar things here. If you want to learn more about me, my writing or my blog please tweet me @catherineelaine or email me (email@example.com) and I’d be happy to be of service.
Work Experience in the print media sector has also aided my desire to make a life out of writing. In 2009, I spent four weeks in voluntary placements at The National Magazine Company, Grand Designs Magazine and Food & Travel Magazine learning more about the industry. These weeks were really insightful and I’d definitely consider more internships in the future. I’m currently open to offers of writing elsewhere and am a sub-editor for More Than The Music and have previously written for Ethical Heaven. Oh, and I once got paid real money to write an article here.
More recently, my attention has turned to the Social Media industry and I’ve genuinely been inspired. Participating in Channel 4’s Inspiration Week allowed me to attend New Media workshops and made me realise that there is an industry out there that I’d love to be a part of. The way that the industry understands the evolution of society and the growing influence of social networks and blogs coincides with my beliefs that they are something to be embraced.
I want to write. I want to live off the words I create. I want to spend my life writing about things that amaze me. I want to travel the world and then tell the world about what I saw. I want to interest people. I want people to turn on their computers and immediately check my page. I want to find the most amazing new music and post it here. I want to connect with people. I want to discover the undiscovered. I want to inspire.
But I’ve learnt enough in my life to realise “I want” doesn’t get.
